Six years ago, the Department of Children Services spoke about their foster care program in Montgomery County at the Hilldale Kiwanis Club.
Hilldale Kiwanis wanted to help these families with any unmet needs. Jacklyn Bryant, Supervisor with the Foster Families with DCS, suggested providing Easter Baskets for the children.
From there, an impactful service project formed. The Hilldale Kiwanis Club has since provided over 900 Easter Baskets for the children in foster care.
This year, Jacklyn said there are 165 kids in foster care in Montgomery County. Hilldale Kiwanis set a goal to complete 200.
Hilldale Kiwanis is involved with many different organizations around Montgomery County and knows there are more kids who would love an Easter Basket.
This year, we contributed 265 Easter Baskets to local organizations that have a positive impact with children! The Department of Children Services, Urban Ministries, Loaves & Fishes, YaiPak Outreach, Mental Health Court and Hope Pregnancy Center all received these baskets.
Hilldale Kiwanis Service Leadership Programs (Key Clubs and K-Kids Programs) both contributed to this service project. Clarksville High, Montgomery Central and Kenwood High Key Clubs contributed 130 of these baskets alone.
Chapel Hill Christian Academy K-Kids filled plastic eggs with candy and encouraging words to be put in each basket. A local business partner, E & J’s 3D Printing, LLC, printed 200 Easter bunnies to go in each basket as well. Many friends and families of members of Hilldale Kiwanis Club also contributed to this project.
