Sumner Station seeks to expand medical services

Sumner Station has announced the intention of file a Certificate of Need to expand services at the Gallatin facility. HIGHPOINT HEALTH

Highpoint Health with Ascension Saint Thomas announced last week it is seeking to grow healthcare services available to those in Sumner County and the surrounding region. The health system announced plans to submit a Certificate of Need (CON) application to expand medical services and add inpatient beds at its existing Highpoint Health-Sumner Station campus on Big Station Camp Boulevard in Gallatin.

This proposed expansion would allow Highpoint Health to better serve the medical needs of the growing population in the greater Gallatin region and establish the first inpatient services in the southwestern area of the city. Proposed additions to the Sumner Station campus include 12 medical/surgical beds, a four-bed intensive care unit and an endoscopy suite for advanced procedural services. The expansion also calls for additional ancillary services, such as a pharmacy, and a comprehensive lab, as well as dietary care and expanded environmental services capabilities. The campus addition would house hospital admissions operations as well.

“This expansion of Highpoint Health – Sumner Station is an exciting step that will ensure our community and patients have access to important healthcare services when and where they need them,” said Rod Harkleroad, RN, MMHC, market president of Highpoint Health with Ascension Saint Thomas. “The addition of inpatient beds and other services at this location builds on our commitment to better serve our region and will create new opportunities for care at a facility our community already knows and trusts.”

Highpoint Health owns approximately 30 acres around the current location which will be used to develop the hospital expansion if the CON is approved.

“We are so pleased that the healthcare options at Sumner Station are growing and expanding,” Gallatin Mayor Paige Brown said. “Our area continues to grow, and our community needs new, additional and expanded healthcare services more than ever. We look forward to the results of the CON and the increase in care options for our region.”

Highpoint Health-Sumner Station currently provides 24/7 adult and pediatric emergency services as well as outpatient cancer care, diagnostic and imaging services and comprehensive outpatient rehabilitation therapy for adults. These services will continue alongside the proposed expansion, and additional jobs will also be added in clinical, administrative and facility roles.
